Codebrite returns in 2018

Venture Centre's popular codebrite courses will start again in January 2018. Venture Centre's popular codebrite courses will start again in January 2018.

As we begin the school holidays, parents across the region are no doubt wondering how on earth they’re going to entertain their kids all the way through until the end of January.

Don’t worry though, the team at Venture Centre have felt your pain and come to the rescue - with a series of coding workshops for eight to 13-year-olds.

Venture Centre cofounder Jo Allum says it’s all about ensuring that the next generation are enabled with digital tools and services, the skills to use them and knowledge of how to apply them to create value.

“At Venture Centre we believe in learning through doing. So if the young members of your family are great inventors, always coming up with bright ideas, we can teach them how to test those ideas in the same way any start-up or entrepreneur would,” she says.

“More and more, we, as a society, realise we don’t know what the future of jobs is going to look like for our kids. The labour market is no longer something that can be managed by government and institutions. The future is uncertain and the attributes and competencies needed to thrive in it are multitudinous. So at Venture Centre we focus on learning of transferable skills - like coding and teamwork.”

The popular codebrite events – which teach computational skills - will be held on January 22 and 23 at Basestation, on Durham St. There are also free learn-to-code taster courses in Te Puke and Katikati at 1pm on January 24 and 25, respectively.

- Venture Centre works to connect people on enterprising journeys - with each other and the mindset, skillset, toolsets, networks and resources they need - to build an ecosystem that delivers real-world, learn-by-doing events, activities, projects and experiences, and more... This would not be possible without the support of Tauranga City and Western Bay of Plenty District councils.

If you would like to add your support or get involved with this work to help build entrepreneurially capable, digitally and commercially empowered communities who contribute and benefit from the resulting prosperity and wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.
